Mamie Lou Porterfield Bond, 98, formerly of 1151 Athens Highway, Elberton, Georgia widow of the late Minno F. Bond passed away Friday, March 30, 2012 at Spring Valley Health Care Center in Elberton, Georgia. Born in Wilkes County, Georgia April 27, 1913 to the late William Thomas Porterfield and Lucy Ann Cofer Porterfield. Mrs. Bond was a member of Northside Baptist Church, she was retired from Elberton Mills where she worked as a weaver and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Left to cherish her memories are her son and daughter-in-law Cecil F. and Carolyn J. Bond of Elberton, Georgia; grandchildren S. Mark and Diane Bond of Suwannee, Georgia; Melanie B. White of Elberton, Georgia; Mimi Bond of Easley, South Carolina; and great-grandchildren Amber White, Zachary Bond, Rachel White, and Andrew Bond. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers Albert L. Porterfield, Robert M. Porterfield, Walter T. Porterfield, Addison S. Porterfield and Oliver B. Porterfield; sisters Geenie Sue Porterfield Page and her twin sister Georgia Mae Porterfield who died at birth. A Celebration of her life will be held Sunday, April 1, at 3PM at Northside Baptist Church with Rev. David McConnell and Rev. Sonny Peevy officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Elberton, Georgia with Don Kellum, Joe Leard, Hassell Porterfield, Mel Stovall, David Spaid and Bill Yarbrough serving as pallbearers. The Deacons of Northside Baptist Church will serve as Honorary pallbearers. The Bond family will be at the home of Cecil F. and Carolyn J. Bond 1143 Athens Highway, Elberton and will receive friends from 2-3PM just prior to the service at Northside Baptist Church. Expressions of sympathy may be expressed to the family online at www.berryfh.com and in lieu of flowers memorials may be made in her honor to Northside Baptist Church Sanctuary Fund, 384 North Oliver Street, Elberton, Georgia 30635. Locally owned Berry Funeral Home & Crematory of Elberton is respectfully in charge of the funeral arrangements for Mamie Lou Porterfield Bond.
