Maria Annette Buffington Riggs

Maria ‘Annette’ Buffington Riggs, 50, of Washington Highway, Elberton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital with her sister at her side, after suffering a stroke eight days prior.

Annette was born in Elberton on August 26, 1973, daughter of the late Earl Buffington and June Marie Wilder McCannon. She previously worked in the poultry industry and was a member of Celebration Outreach Center. Annette loved sunflowers, spending time with her family – especially at the beach, and her Lord and Savior. 

Surviving are her children: Brent Driscoll of Dewy Rose, Billy West of Elberton, and Aubrey Phillips of Merritt Island, FL; sisters: Tammy Gail Lowney of Elberton, and Deborah Elaine Doane of Columbus, OH; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Pamela Kay McCannon. 

The family will host a memorial service on Sunday, July 21, at 2:00p.m. at Celebration Outreach Center with the Rev. John Case officiating.
