Catherine Moore Glenn, affectionately known as “Cootie”, died peacefully at the age of 93 on Wednesday afternoon, November 6, 2024, at Elbert Memorial Hospital. A former resident of Athens Highway and Heard Drive, she had most recently been a resident of Magnolia Estates.
Marion Catherine Hendrick was born on the family farm in the Paoli Community of Comer, Madison County, GA, on September 22, 1931, the youngest of three children. Her parents, Joseph Hooker Hendrick and Fannie Lee Johnson Hendrick, and her two siblings, James Calvin “Dink” (Bessie) Hendricks and Dorothy Virginia “Dot” (Billie) Seagraves, preceded her in death. The family attended Meadow Baptist Church, which established Cootie’s faith at a young age. She spoke often with reverence regarding her upbringing, family, and friends.
She graduated from Comer High School in 1948 and was elected homecoming queen by her peers that same year. Shortly thereafter, she met and married Charles David Moore from Elberton. Cootie and Charlie made Elberton their home where they raised two sons Charles Randall and Barry Eugene. She joined Doves Creek Baptist Church and later moved her letter to Antioch Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher.
Cootie was a dedicated mother and house wife while the boys were young, raising chickens and maintaining the home while Charlie was an over-the-road truck driver. She then worked as a cashier at Winn-Dixie Super Market and later retired as a bookkeeper from Argo Trucking Company.
After Charlie’s death in 2002, Cootie reconnected with classmate Samuel Everett Glenn, and they were married the following year. She also gained a daughter, Jennifer, and son, Jeffrey, both of whom she loved as her own. Sam and Catherine enjoyed many years of camping with the Dixie Drifters Camping Club, square dancing at various locations, and trips to Harrah’s in Cherokee, NC.
Affectionately known as “Mama Cootie” or “Meme” to her family, she loved laughing, playing a game of cards, as well as telling a joke or pulling a prank - two things she proudly inherited from her mother. Her most recent favorite pastime was playing BINGO at Magnolia, something she looked forward to weekly. Catherine relished spending time with her family, and never missed an opportunity to shop or eat out.
Along with her parents and siblings, she is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Charlie; husband of 20 years, Sam; son, Barry, and bonus son, Jeffrey.
She is survived by her son, Randall and his wife Ann Edwards Moore of Elberton, GA; grandchildren: Charles Robert “Robbie” Moore of Sugar Hill, GA, William Chadwick “Chad” Moore of Elberton, GA, Abby Elizabeth Moore of Atlanta, GA, and Wesley David Moore of Buford, GA; great-grandchildren: Tanner Cole Moore of Elberton, GA and Colsen Chadwick Moore of Elberton, GA; and bonus daughter, Jennifer Glenn Ishee and her partner Steve Wise of Orlando, FL.
Friends may visit the family on Monday evening, November 11, from 5 o’clock until 7 o’clock at Berry Funeral Home.
The funeral service celebrating Cootie’s life will be held on Tuesday morning, November 12, at 11 o’clock from the Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Thrift officiating and Mr. Robert Mattox providing music. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Forest Hills Memorial Park with Rev. Andrew Sullivan officiating.
Active pallbearers will include Robbie Moore, Chad Moore, Wesley Moore, Tanner Moore, Colsen Moore, and Canaan Richardson. Honorary pallbearers will include Jerry Hendricks, Darrell Seagraves, Dwayne Moore, Allen Moore, Rusty Adams, Donnie Parham, and Wilford Heard.
Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in her memory to the charity of one’s choice.
The family wishes to extend their sincerest appreciation to Linda Saxon, who has been ever-so-faithful as well as to the staff of Magnolia Estates and Elbert Memorial Hospital for their exceptional care.
Exceptionally well-mannered, gracious, and loving, Catherine’s gentle spirit and sense of humor will be remembered by generations.
