Martha Ann Alexander Evans

Mrs. Martha Ann Alexander Evans, 84, of Rock Branch Road, Elberton, GA, wife of the late Jim Frank Evans, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Pruitt Health at Spring Valley.

Mrs. Evans was born in Elberton, GA on September 6, 1937, daughter of the late John Benjamin Alexander and Ruby Viola Brown Alexander. She was retired from Jackson Mills in Iva, SC and from Brown Convalescent Center in Royston, GA. Martha was a member of Rock Branch Baptist Church and was lovingly referred to as MawMaw by her family.

Survivors include her daughters: Rhonda and Walter Payton of Elberton, GA and Tina Osborne of Iva, SC; grandchildren: Kyra and Daniel Graves, Aaron and Courtney Payton, Ben Green, and April Adams; great-grandchildren: Zola, Auri, and Isli Graves, Leland and Andi Payton, Tyler and Courtney Payton, and Luke Duncan; great-great-grandchild, Delilah Christian; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her grandsons: Matthew and Wesley Payton; and sisters: Loretta Richardson and Sue Yeargin.

The family is at the residence of Walter and Rhonda Payton, 2135 Luther Burton Road, Elberton, and will receive friends on Thursday, March 3, from 6:00p.m. until 8:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Friday, March 4, at 11 o’clock at Rock Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Kevin Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Micah Bryant, Paul Craft, Joe Dawson, Charlie Jones, Nick Kohl, and Dennis Richardson honored as pallbearers.
