Lamborn died when she was young and her mother, Romye Burnes Lamborn raised Martha and her sister Ruth by becoming the first woman Realtor in the Washington, D.C. area. She graduated from William & Mary College in Williamsburg, VA, where she met her first husband and father of her children, Lee Aston. She taught English and other subjects for many years, having taught in Elbert, Floyd and Clarke Counties in Georgia. She was much admired and respected by her students. Martha was instrumental in founding a local Elberton, GA theatrical troupe in the 1970's, known as The Pastime Players. She directed and acted in numerous stage productions put on by the group. Martha was a member of Athens First Baptist Church, where she taught an adult Sunday school class. Mrs. Pool married Allan Pool, of Athens, GA in 1983. They lived happily for a number of years before he predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her sister, Ruth Silverthorn, with whom she had always been very close and a granddaughter, Diana Morgan. Mrs. Pool was known affectionately as "Grandma Janie" by her family, having been called Janie as a child because her name was Martha Jane. She loved gardening, cooking, playing games and bridge, the arts, music, traveling, going to the beach and mountains, and her cats. Mrs. Pool is survived by her children: Gary (Linda) Aston of Elberton, GA, their children, Derek (Katie) and Charlotte, and grandchildren: Hayleigh and Lucas Aston; Roger (Grace) Aston of California and their son, Ryan; Robin Aston of Elberton; and Laurel Aston of California, and her daughter Ashley.
