Mrs. Martha ‘Carol’ Gunter Post, 72, of Toccoa, GA, wife of 51 years to George Joseph Post, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at her home.
She was born on October 2, 1951, in Elberton, GA, to Mitchell Gunter, Sr. and Fannie Agatha Guest Gunter. Carol was a dedicated professional who served as a secretary for the Naval School in Athens and later retired from the Federal Highway Administration Georgia Division. She will be remembered as a loving and kind soul who touched the lives of many around her.
Outside of her career, she found joy in various hobbies and interests including crafting, quilting, crocheting, and painting. Above all, “Mama Carol” enjoyed spending quality time with her family. Her creative spirit shone through in everything she did, bringing light and warmth to those fortunate enough to know her.
A proud 1969 graduate of Elbert County High School, Carol valued her many friendships that formed during her school years, and enjoyed keeping up with her many friends.
Surviving are her husband of 51 years, George Joseph Post; son, Jonathan Gunter Post; her cherished sister, Cathy Marie Davis and husband Randall; and sister-in-law, Amy Gunter. Martha held a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews whom she affectionately referred to as her "GrandAngels": Dwight (Ashley), Ivy, Holly, Gillian, Cydney (Andrew), Kinley, Raquel, Zeke, Meredith, Wyatt, Mauricio, Sebastian "Pete", Macy, Miles, Jace, Autumn, and Oliver.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents and brothers: Mitchell Gunter Jr., Morris Gunter, and Marvin Gunter.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 5, from 6:00-8:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.
Funeral services celebrating Carol’s life will be conducted on Saturday, April 6, at 11:00a.m. at New Town Baptist Church in Carlton with the Rev. John Guest and the Rev. Johnny Wright officiating. Theresa Hicks and Susan Guest will provide music.
Interment will follow in Carlton Cemetery with Andrew Hall, Antonio Duran, Keith Chafin, Brian Chafin, Brandon Mitchell, and Michael Davis honored to serve as pallbearers.
Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in her memory to Bear Creek Baptist Church, 1786 GA-81, Winder, GA 30680.
