Mary Elizabeth Jenkins Hunt, widow of James M. Hunt, FAIA, died Friday, June 17, 2011 in Athens Regional Medical Center.Born January 12, 1923 to Alma and James V. Jenkins of Madison County, Mrs. Hunt was a homemaker, and graduated from West Georgia College and the University of Georgia, where she earned her BS degree in Home Economics.She assisted her husband in interior design work in his architectural practice. A member of First Baptist Church, she was active in missions & outreach work.The Georgia Federation of Women’s Clubs honored her with their Family of the Year Award, and she was also chosen Elbert County Homemaker of the Year. Mrs. Hunt is survived by a sister, Augusta Jenkins of Athens; one brother, Crawford (Jane) Jenkins of Stone Mountain; a son, J. Mat Hunt, Jr. of Greenville, SC;a daughter, Dr. Annie Hunt (Woody) Burriss of Atlanta;three grandchildren, Rev. Jake (Melissa) Hunt of Prague, Czech Republic, Paul Hunt of Marietta, and William Burriss of Lexington, KY; and two great-grandsons, Sam & Foard Hunt of Prague.She was predeceased by granddaughter Virginia Vail “Ginnie” Burriss on May 5th, and son Howard Jenkins (Ning) Hunt on May 25th. Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, June 26, at First Baptist Church, Elberton, GA, with Rev’s. Ken Whitfield, Ed Nelson and Ray Jenkins officiating.The family will receive friends in the church Fellowship Hall at 2:00 PM, one hour before the service.
