Mary Jo Brown Pleasants, 86, of Rhodes Drive, Elberton, wife of Edsel Pleasants, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2013, at her residence. Mrs. Pleasants was born in Elbert County, April 30, 1927; was the daughter of the late Cecil and Clyde Caldwell Brown and step-daughter of the late Thelma Ruff Brown. She was retired from the U.S. Soil Conservation Service as an Administrative Assistant and a member of First Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women of the Church, and Iris Garden Club. Left to cherish her memories are her beloved husband of 65 years, Edsel Pleasants of the home; daughters, Susan Fricks and her husband Jack of Elberton and Patti King and her husband Bobby of Vanna; grandchildren, Brandon King, Kristopher King, Courtney Fricks, and Jay Fricks; two great-grandchildren, Baylor King and Anna Marie King; siblings, Parks H. Brown, Sr. of Athens and Lucy Gomez of Elberton; sister-in-law, Mary Brown of Elberton; caregiver, Theodosia Brunson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by siblings, Frances Murdock, Eva Herring, and David Brown. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held Saturday, August 10, at 11:00a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Elberton with the Revs. William R. Conine and Boone Clayton officiating. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery with Barry Herring, Mike Brown, Mark Brown, Bob Gomez, and Parks H. "Buddy" Brown, Jr. honored as pallbearers. The family is at the residence on Rhodes Drive and will receive friends at the Fellowship Hall of First Presbyterian Church of Elberton from 9:30-10:45a.m. Saturday morning.
