Mary D’Amico, of 1227 Country Club Lane, Elberton, Georgia, passed away Monday, November 1, 2010, after living an extraordinarily blessed life with her devoted family.She was 85 years old. Born in Elberton, Mary was the daughter of the late Julian Edward and Cora Wiley D’Amico.She married Neal T. McLanahan on June 18, 1950 – they had been married for 60 years at the time of Neal’s death on October 27, 2010.She stayed in the home, joyfully raising her beloved children.She also worked alongside her husband at McLanahan Crushed Stone, Inc. for 50 years, as a bookkeeper for the company. Mary lovedher family more than anything and was dedicated to each child and grandchild, selflessly giving them her undivided attention and infinite wisdom.Her children and grandchildren were her world, as she was theirs. Mrs. McLanahan especially loved spending time with her family at Shangri-La, her lake house on Lake Thurmond.It was a very special place that brought her much peace and happiness.She loved working in her yard, still cutting her grass and raking her leaves into her eighties. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Mrs. McLanahan is survived by three daughters, Marilyn (Marny) Perry and Phyllis Gagne of Athens and Janet Goossens of Elberton, a son, Ronald Neal (Rod) McLanahan of Elberton, five granddaughters, Cheyenne and Montana Perry of Athens, Jessie and Codie McLanahan of Elberton, Suzanne Goossens of Elberton, and one grandson, Zed McLanahan, presently in Afghanistan serving his country. Additionally, she is survivedby one sister, Francis Power of Oakwood, Georgia, and three brothers, James (Jim) D’Amico, of Fayetteville, Georgia, Julian (Butch) D’Amico of Mooresville, North Carolina, and Edward D’Amico of Wheatridge, Colorado. To honor Mrs. McLanahan’s request, there will be no memorial service.A private burial will be at Elmhurst Cemetery for immediate family only. The family respectfully requests no visitation at the homes or business. No flowers please.Memorials presented to a favorite charity are appreciated.
