Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Rice, 90, of Elberton, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016 in St. Mary’s Hospice House.Nanny, as she was lovingly called by everyone, was a native of Elberton, the daughter of the late Willie Stanton and Agnes Owen Fleming.Mrs. Rice was a homemaker and a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church.She enjoyed quilting and made and gave quilts to many of her family and friends.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Chester Rice, daughter, Debbie Rice Hilley, sisters, Ruth Hemingway and Hilda Sheats, brothers, Bobby Fleming and Owen Fleming. Survivors include son, Raymond Rice, Elberton; granddaughter, Melissa Duck and her husband, Michael, of Elberton; grandson, Travis Hilley, of Elberton; great grandchildren, Audrey Duck, Mason, Dustin and Ellie Hilley; sisters Rebecca Drake, of Carlton, Irene Shupe, of Athens, Wilma Paulk, of Ocilla; brothers, Larry Fleming, of Athens and Gerald Fleming, of Plattsburg, NY; sister in law, Ethelene Martin, of Abbeville, SC and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Monday, August 29, 2016 at 2:00pm in Bethlehem UMC with Rev. Billy Lewis and Rev. Tim Adams officiating.Interment followed in the church cemetery.Tom Duck, Len Dunn, Marvin Dye, Elliott Dye, Rick Wansley, Rodger Johnson, Buddy Childs, Jacob McIntyre and Gerald Moon served as pallbearers.The family received friends at the church on beginning at 12:00 noon until time for the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem UMC Cemetery Fund in Mrs. Rice’s memory.
