Mr. Maurice Edward Hammond, 80, of Hiawassee, GA, formerly of Port St. Lucie, FL, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 4, 2012, after several years of declining health.He was born on November 8, 1931, in Elberton, GA, the oldest son of Archie P. and Lois (Grimes) Hammond.He was of the Baptist Faith. Mr. Hammond spent many years in the transportation industry for several employers including Firestone, Uniroyal, Kmart, and Prior Tire Company.While with Kmart, he assisted with store openings, and was manager of the tire departments in cities in North and South Carolina.As an entrepreneur he owned Treasure Coast Monuments in Fort Pierce, FL and also a vending machine servicing company. He was a member of Philomathea Lodge #25 F&AM of Elberton, GA, JOPPA Chapter #28 R.A.M Tyrian Council #36 R&SM of St. Lucie Commandery #17, Ft. Pierce, FL., a former member of Scottish Rite Free Mason in Valley of Lake Worth Orient of FL, YAARAB Shrine Temple of Atlanta, GA, Life Member Order of DeMolay and invested with the Degree of Chevalier, and a member of Ruth Chapter #7 Order of the Eastern Star. He is survived by his wife, Ann Crum Hammond; brother, A. Pope Hammond, Jr., daughter; Carol (Michael) Helmase, step-children; Deborah Webb, Tracy (James) Tittle, and Cliff Scott; granddaughter: Jennifer Paschall; step-granddaughter; Jesse Tittle, and many other extended family members and friends.He was preceded in death by his daughter Lynn Hammond Paschall. Visitation and funeral service will be Thursday, June 7, 2012 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Hicks Funeral Home, Elberton, GA., with Rev.
