Mr. Mercer Jefferson Leftwich Augusta, GA - Mr. Mercer Jefferson Leftwich, Jr., 72, husband to Mrs. Janis Storey Leftwich entered into peaceful rest and to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 after a brief illness. Mr. Mercer Leftwich was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He attended Erskine College. Mr. Leftwich was a teacher and coach for 30 years in Richmond County with Sego Middle School being the highlight of his coaching career, special thanks to his many players that created the memories for him and his wife that still hold a special place in their hearts. He was a member of Green Meadows Golf Club. Mr. Leftwich was later employed by the Richmond County Marshall’s department for 7 years with fond memories and close friends that he made there. Family members in addition to his loving wife of 45 years to include daughter: Candi L. King (Robert) of Clarksville, TN, son: Mercer Leftwich III (Christie) of Lafayette, LA; loving grandchildren; Amanda Kay and Michael Chase and sister: Carolyn Guest (Roger). Mr. Leftwich was preceded in death by his parents: Mr. and Mrs. Mercer Jefferson Leftwich Sr. and his mother and father-in- law: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Storey. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 12 noon in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with Rev. Jerry Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park. The official pallbearers will be: Rick Rogers, Rodney Farrer, Ryan Dunn, Terrell Wiggins, Jerry Peters, Jimmy Boozer, and Frank Weed. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Richmond County Marshall’s Department and men of Oak Grove Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, please make charitable contributions in memory to the Mr. Mercer Jefferson Leftwich, Jr. memorial building fund of Oak Grove Baptist Church located at 3880 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, Ga. 30909. The family would like to thank the Dr. Danny Newman, Dr. William Neuman, Dr. Matthew Cranford, Dr. Frederick Rosenblum, Dr. Doug Quarles, Dr. Mark Smith, Dr. Robert Hill Group, along with the 2nd floor and ICU staff of Trinity Hospital for all the love, care and prayers given to him and his family during this time of need.
