Michael C. Herndon

Mr. Michael C. Herndon, 65, of Hartwell, Georgia passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2014in Athens, Georgia. Mr. Herndon was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, son of George Lawrence Herndon and the late Rebecca Carithers Herndon.Michael was the husband of Alexa Jane Thomas Herndon, having celebrated 44 years of marriage together.He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served his country in the Vietnam War.Michael began his career as a teacher in the Elbert County School System,and then taught several years in Anderson County, South Carolina. He later became a social worker for the State of Georgia. In addition to his wife, Alexa Thomas Herndon, Michael is survived by his children: Ashley Cline (Jon) of Savannah, Adrian Daniel Herndon (Brandi) of Athens, and Rosemary Claire Eutsler (James) of Elberton;and five grandchildren.He also leaves behind a brother, Steve Herndon of Smyrna, and his father, George L. Herndon of Smyrna. Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Rebecca Herndon, and a granddaughter, Kaylee Rose Smith. A memorial service to celebrate Michael’s life was held Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in The Chapel of Hicks Funeral Home, with Rev. Tony Visamore officiating.Visitation was Saturday at 10:00 a.m. just prior to the service.
