Mrs. Mildred Jones Dixon, 91, left this earthly life to join her Heavenly Father on Friday, January 8, 2016 after a short stay at Nancy Hart Nursing Center. Mrs. Dixon was born September 25, 1924 in Wilkes County, Georgia to her late parents Howard and Mae (Mulkey) Jones. She was the wife of Paul W. Dixon, to whom she was married for 54 years before his death in 1996. She was a homemaker and retired from Elberton Manufacturing. For 72 years, she was an active member of Eliam United Methodist Church in the Fortsonia community where she served as Sunday School teacher, worked with and guided the young people of the church, and held multiple leadership positions in the UMW and the Athens-Elberton district. In addition to her extensive church work, she was recognized for nearly 40 years of devoted service to her children’s schools, sports programs and community organizations. Left to cherish memories of her are her children and their spouses: Connie and Norman Memory of Atlanta, Georgia; Greg and Vicki Dixon of Anderson, South Carolina; and Bryan and Cindy Dixon of Elberton; eight grandchildren: Jay (Kappy) Memory, Michelle Dixon (fiancé Rob Meadows), Allen (Amy) Dixon, Mindy Dixon (Wesley) Black, Amy Dixon (Josh) Brown, April Dixon (Michael) Hughes, Katie Dixon (Chris) Isham and Emily Dixon; and eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. Dixon also leaves behind a sister, Shirley Jones Bond. She was preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Janna Dixon; and two brothers: Howard N. Jones, Jr. and Wylie Frank Jones. A service to celebrate Mrs. Dixon’s life was held Sunday, January 10, at 3 p.m. at Eliam United Methodist Church with Rev. Emily Case and Rev. J. Wesley Privett officiating. Visitation was held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the Christian Activities Building of the church.
