Mrs. Callie Mildred Martin Bradford, 102, formerly of Edwards St. Elberton, GA passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Nancy Hart Nursing Center.
Mrs. Bradford, a longtime resident of Elberton, was born to the late Margaret Robertson Martin and William Austin Martin in Abbeville County, SC on April 9, 1917. She was the widow of Jack L. Bradford. Mrs. Bradford was also preceded in death by three brothers, William B. Martin, Andrew L. Martin and Wilbur A. Martin, and two sisters, Margaret M. Christian and Annette Tripp.
Mrs. Bradford worked at F.W. Woolworth in Greenville, SC and later for J.C. Penney. The family moved to Elberton, GA in 1948 and Mrs. Bradford and her late husband, Jack, owned and operated The Shanty Restaurant for 28 years until Mr. Bradford's death in 1986. Mrs. Bradford continued to run the restaurant for another 22 years until her retirement in 1997 at age 80.
Mrs. Bradford is survived by one daughter, Jackie Bradford Bellew of Elberton, GA; four grandchildren, Margaret Lisa Hamilton (Michael Renwick) of Greer, SC; Frances Annette Riggs (Dana) of Simpsonville, SC; Duranne Bellew Adams (Jay Henry) of Ila, GA; and Bryan David Bellew of Athens, GA; four great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services to celebrate Mrs. Bradford's life will be held 2PM, Saturday February 8 at Elberton First Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Adams officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park with Johnny Christian, Kennon Bradford, Michael Renwick, Jay Henry Adams, Clint Camp, Dana Riggs and Dustin Seigler serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Friday night February 7 at Berry Funeral Home.
