Mildred Moon Slay

Mildred Moon Slay, 90, of Elberton, wife of the late George Fate Slay, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2013, at Elbert Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Slay was born in Elbert County, February 2, 1923, to the late George H. and Mattie Lou Yeargin Moon. She was a homemaker, retired from the textile industry, and a member of Flatwoods Pentecostal Holiness Church. Left to cherish her memories are her son and daughters-in-law, Wilton and Jessie Slay of Dewy Rose and Martha Slay of Elberton; sisters, Mattie Lou Yeargin of Elberton and Ruth Raborn of Jackson, SC; brother, Walter Moon of Greenwood, SC; three grandchildren, Doug and Wanda Slay of Bowman, Delon and Randy Smith of Elberton, and Cindy and Hayes Morrison of the Holly Springs Community; four great-grandchildren, Alex Roberts, Slaytor Smith, Mary Beth Smith, and Tallis Morrison; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by son, Marshall Slay; and siblings, Elmer, Aubry, Henry, J.E., Dorsey, Lewis, and Phillip Moon, Addie Stone, Mary Scarborough, and Corine Kinard. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held Saturday, September 7, at 11:00a.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Phillip Hart officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park with Doug Slay, Randy Smith, Hayes Morrison, Bill Yeargin, Wynn Vickery, and Frankie Johnson honored as pallbearers. Alex Roberts and Slaytor Smith will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 7:00-8:30p.m. Friday evening.
