Mitchell M. Smith, 61, of Charles Yeargin Road, Elberton, husband of Rebecca Hall Smith, passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 15, 2013, in Elberton. Mr. Smith was born in Lake City, FL, October 15, 1951, to the late Marrill Weeks Smith and Dolly Thomas Smith. He was owner/operator of Smith Granite Sales and a truck driver. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Philomathea Lodge #25, F.A.M., Thirty-Second Degree Scottish Rite and York Rite Mason, Knight Templar, Noble of the Mystic Shrine where he has served as Aide & Personal Aide to several Potentates of the Yaarab Shrine in Atlanta. He was also a member of the Granite Center Shrine Club and the Elks Lodge #1100. Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Rebecca Hall Smith of the home; children, Rhonda and Phil Rice of Elberton, James and Whitney Kolongowki of Michigan, Jason and Hope Hall of Statesville, NC, and Tabatha and Marc Roberts of Clarkesville, TN; sisters, Lorinda Baily and Dee Nix; and twelve grandchildren. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held Sunday, August 18, at 3:00p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Rowe, the Rev. Tim Adams, and Mr. Steve Jenkins officiating. Cremation will follow the service. The family is at the residence on Charles Yeargin Road and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 1:00-3:00p.m. Sunday afternoon. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions in his memory to Calvary Baptist Church, 1106 Petersburg Road, Elberton, GA 30635, or to Shriners Children's Hospital, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
