Mona Anne Bowen Lunsford, age 47, of Dewy Rose, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 27, 2020, at Elbert Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. She fought a courageous battle with cancer for 12 years and overcame many obstacles, but God had a better plan for her.
She was born on January 7, 1973, to James Wilson “Jimmy” Bowen and Mary Eileen Flowers Bowen, who survive her. Mona graduated from Elbert County High School in 1991. She was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church and attended Deep Creep Baptist Church. She worked as a Pharmacy Technician at Elbert Memorial Hospital. Mona loved her family dearly and was absolutely thrilled to be “Yaya” to her two grandchildren that she loved dearly. In her spare time, she enjoyed woodworking, arts and crafts, and working in her flower gardens. Mona was always willing to extend a helping hand to anyone in need, and through the gift of organ donation, will live on by assisting those in need to see.
In addition to her parents of Elberton, she is survived by her husband of 22 years, Jarred Shane Lunsford of Dewy Rose; two daughters of whom she was very proud: Hannah and C.J. Brown of Elberton and Mary Grace Lunsford of Dewy Rose; grandchildren: Rielyn Brown and Colton Brown; brother, Paul and Beverly Bowen of Seneca, SC; sister-in-law, Sarah Bowen of Palm Bay, FL; and special cousins, Robin Warren and her husband Aaron of Bowman and Christopher and Marie Phillips of Milton, GA. She is also survived by her parents-in-law: John and Susan Lunsford of Dewy Rose and Phyllis and Frank Eades of Tignall; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Mona was predeceased by her brother, James Clinton “Clint” Bowen; special aunt, Karen Flowers Phillips; and grandparents: James and Mary Jo Bowen, Frank R. “Bud” Flowers, Jr., and Ramona Gulley.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Sunday, August 30, at 3 o’clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Adams officiating. Mona will be laid to rest with her aunt Karen in Elberton’s Historic Elmhurst Cemetery.
The family is at the residence and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00p.m. on Saturday, August 29.
Contributions may be made in her memory to T.J. & Friends Foundation, PO Box 6161, Elberton, GA 30635.
