Nelle McWhorter Ashby, 76, of Summerville, SC, wife of Dr. William T. Ashby, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2014 at Hospice of Charleston in Mt. Pleasant. Friends and family may call at James A. Dyal Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 from 6 o'clock until 8 o'clock PM. Funeral services will be held at St. George's Episcopal Church, 9110 Dorchester Road, Summerville on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 11o'clock AM. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Gardens, 1100 Dorchester Road, Summerville. Nelle was born on November 11, 1937 in Unadilla, GA, daughter of the late Benjamine McWhorter, Sr. and Martha (Orr) McWhorter. She graduated from Piedmont Hospital School School of Nursing where she became a registered nurse. Nelle was a labor and delivery nurse for 43 years. She was a member of St. George's Espiscopal Church. Surviving in addition to her husband Dr. Ashby are: three children: William Thomas Ashby, Jr. (Jeanette) of Summerville, Ginger Ashby Webster (Ed) of Charlottesville, VA and Sheryl Ashby Stapp (Burton) of Orlando, FL; seven grandchildren; one brother: Benjamin McWhorter, Jr. of Elberton, GA.
