Patrick E. "Pat" Smith, 52, of 2317 Lincolnton Highway, Elberton, passed away Sunday evening, December 25, 2011, at Elbert Memorial Hospital. Mr. Smith was born in Abbeville County, South Carolina, March 30, 1959, to the late Julius Lawrence and Agnes Elizabeth Cade Smith. He was a member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church and retired from Bilo Grocery Store in Elberton. Left to cherish his memories are special longtime friend, Melvin Kirkwood; one brother and sister-in-law, Tom Cade and Pam Smith; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Louie Toney; brother-in-law, Roy McCannon, all of Elberton; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister, Ann McCannon. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 4PM Tuesday, December 27, in the Woodlawn United Methodist Church with Rev. Lacey Bowcock, Rev. Quincy Fortson Sr., and Rev. Cottrell Harper Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Walt Smith, Phillip Kirkwood, Dwayne Brown, Shaun Kirkwood, Randy Lane, Jimbo Patterson, Charles Wallis, Jack Walker, and Marlow Brown serving as pallbearers. At Pat's request, the Staff of Berry Funeral Home will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family is at the home of Tom Cade and Pam Smith, 2285 Lincolnton Highway, Elberton, and will receive friends at the church from 2-4PM Tuesday, just prior to the service. The family respectfully requests no flowers, and memorials may be made in his honor to the Woodlawn United Methodist Church Building Fund, 3780 Brad Dixon Road Elberton, Georgia 30635.
