Paul Lamar Cofer

Mr. Paul 'Lamar' Cofer, 95, of Rocker Road, Crawfordville, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Southern Manor Senior Living in Washington. 

Mr. Cofer was born in Wilkes County on December 28, 1927, son of the late Harris Martin Cofer and Lois Gertrude Hackney Cofer. He was a clerk having retired from Griffin Country Store after 50 years of service, the only job he ever had. A very Godly man, Lamar was a lifelong member of Philliips Mill Baptist Church. He loved his church and church family, and served faithfully as secretary/treasurer for over 50 years. 

Mr. Cofer was a simple, country man. He read his Bible daily and enjoyed raising bees. Lamar cared for and loved everyone. He never missed an opportunity to send a greeting card to his friends, and was glad to be able to send Christmas cards this year. 

Surviving are two nieces: Dixie Cofer Watkins and Cynthia Cofer Rogers; and sister-in-law, Francia Cofer.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his younger brother, Harris 'Donald' Cofer.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 23, from 1:00-1:45p.m at Phillips Mill Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00p.m. in the church sanctuary with Rev. Mark Woods officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Roger McAvoy, Gary Hopkins, Tony Griffin, Jim Hackney, Levi Scott, and David McAoy, and Jerry Hackney will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
