Mr. Paul 'Wesley' King, better known as "Coach", finished his course in faith on Monday, March 28, 2016, at his residence. He was 68.
Wesley was born in Royston on February 28, 1948, son of the late Paul Andrew King and Mary McKern Bailey, and step-son of the late Charles Bailey. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Wesley dedicated his life to serving others. He served as Army MP during the Vietnam War, made a career in Law Enforcement, and retired as a Trooper from Georgia State Patrol. "Coach" impacted the lives of hundreds of youth through his service as a softball coach at the Elberton Recreation Department, Elbert County Middle and High Schools, and Emmanuel College. The legacy that he leaves behind will continue to reach young people for generations.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Connie Willis King of Elberton; children: Jerry King of Mayesville, Monica Harris and her husband Dean of Elberton, Tina King of Charleston, SC, and Jamie King of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren: Hilary King, Samantha Barker and her husband Alan, Tyler Harris and his wife Jessica, Haley Dutton, Addison King, Michael Harris, Reid Weldon, and his granddog, Piglet; great-grandchildren: Nolan Cannon and Karson Harris; siblings: Dennis King of Rock Branch, Dennis Bailey and his wife Faye of Hartwell, and Susan Huff and her husband Gary of Hartwell; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Derrick Wilson; grandson, Ryen King; brother, David Bailey; and sister-in-law, Dale King.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, April 2, at 11:00a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Elberton with the Rev. Paul Rowe officiating. Coach King will be placed in the church at 9:00a.m. on Saturday morning where friends are invited to write their favorite memory on the casket until 10:45a.m.
The family is at the residence and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00p.m. on Friday evening.
