Petrea Annette Ward

Ms. Petrea Annette Ward, life long resident of Elberton, passed away at her home on Friday, January 6, 2023, at the age of 70.

Born on September 24, 1952, in Elberton, she was the only daughter of the late Donald Francis Ward and Annette Hall Ward. Petrea was a 1970 graduate of Elbert County High School and furthered her education at Forest College where she studied history and University of Georgia where she studied horticulture. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Elberton and will be most remembered from her time working as the Office Manager at World Finance Company. Petrea was an emeritus member of the Pilot Club of Elberton where she served as past president. 

Surviving are two daughters and their husbands: Brandye and Robbie Childs of Elberton and Amanda and Ben Johnson of Canon; and brother and his wife, Chris and Laura Ward of Asheboro, NC. She was a devoted “Mumsey” to her grandchildren: Cassidy Madeline Childs and her fiancée Asa Smith, Camdyn Mallory Childs, Taylor Lane Hughes, Colton Charles Hill, and Gatlin Danny Johnson. She also leaves behind a niece, Melissa Ward Cranford, her husband Shane, and their daughter Ivy, and her prides and joy, her feline companions Prince and Beast.

Memorial services celebrating Petrea’s life will held at 2 o’clock on Saturday afternoon, January 14, at Bethel E Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Mize officiating. Interment will be in Elmhurst Cemetery.

The family is at their respective homes and will greet friends at the church immediately following the service.
