Phyllis Louise Saxon Mize Fleeman

Phyllis Louise Saxon Mize Fleeman, born in Elberton, GA on January 18, 1947, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, surrounded by her loving family, at her home. She was 77 years old.

She was a graduate of Elbert County High School with the class of 1965 and dedicated her life to caring for her family. Her foundation of faith was laid at an early age as a member of Harmony Baptist Church, and she was a present member of Royston Church of God.

Phyllis loved her family, friends, and animals, with a special place in her heart for her cherished cat Buttons.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Cindy Marie and John Moon of Elberton, James Philip and Lori Rice Mize of Elberton, and Pamela Denise and Zeb Worley of Elberton; and her sisters: Dorothy McDonald of Longmont, CO and Betty Jo Edwards of Savannah.

Grandmother’s presence will be deeply missed by her grandchildren and their spouses: Brooke and Brad Dickerson, Hannah and Rhett Walker, Morgan and Jacob Elder, Courtney and Jacob Smith, Corbin and Tyler McKellar, as well as ZJ Worley as well as her great-grandchildren: Karsyn, Brylee, Vivian, Bria, Reeson, Kolton, and Emory. She is also survived by special friends: Debra Rice, Barbara Rice, and Helen Mize; and a host of nieces and nephews. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, John Lewis Saxon and Mozelle Payton Saxon; husband, Joe A. Fleeman; and sister Jackie Manning.

The family is at the residence on Parkwood Drive in Elberton and will greet friends on Wednesday, March 13, from 6:00-8:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.

Funeral services celebrating Phyllis’ life will be conducted on Thursday, March 14, at 11:00a.m. at Northside Baptist Church, with her lying in state beginning at 10:00a.m. Interment will follow in Harmony Baptist Church cemetery. Pastor Dan Fernandez will officiate and ZJ Worley, Brad Dickerson, Jacob Elder, Tyler McKellar, Jacob Smith, and Rhett Walker will serve as pallbearers.

Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in her memory to Harmony Baptist Church, 2055 Harmony Road, Elberton, GA 30635.
