Mr. Pleasant James Blackstock, Jr., 89, of Elberton, GA passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Spring Valley Private Home Care. Mr. Blackstock was born December 24, 1923 in Clarkston, GA to the late Louise Armistead and Pleasant James Blackstock, Sr.He was the husband of the late Willena Rucker Blackstock.He grew up in Savannah,and then lived most of his adult life in Atlanta. Mr. Blackstock moved to Elberton upon his retirement in 1990. Mr. Blackstock is survived by a sister-in-law, Jerri Rucker, and a brother-in-law, Byron Rucker and his wife, Rosa.Survivors also include several nieces and nephews:Lee Hendry, Ginny and Wendell Reed, Jimmy and Michelle Rucker, Kathryn Robinson, Kevin Rucker, Kirsten Schatten, Karol and Mike Lunsford, and Melinda and John Sowka;numerous great-nieces and nephews;and 2 great-great-nieces. In addition to his wife, Mr. Blackstock was preceded in death by a son, Carl James Blackstock. A funeral service was held Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at The Chapel of Hicks Funeral Home in Elberton, with Rev. Boone Clayton officiating.A time of visitation was on Friday evening, January 18, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hicks Funeral Home. Interment followed at Elmhurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,memorials may be made to the Ruckersville United Methodist Church, 2189 Ruckersville Rd., Elberton, GA 30635. You may express condolences to the family at www.hicksfuneral.com.
