Ralph Guinn Woodall, Jr., affectionately known as Rusty, passed away peacefully in Elberton, Georgia on March 8, 2025, at the age of 68.
Born in Royston, Georgia on March 13, 1956, Rusty grew up in Bowman. He was a proud 1974 graduate of Elbert County High School and furthered his education by attending North Georgia Technical College. Rusty was a talented welder whose skills were matched only by his free spirit.
His adventurous spirit led him to serve his country honorably in the U.S. Navy, where he worked as a rescue swimmer. Unfortunately, due to injuries sustained in an accident, Rusty received a medical discharge but continued to embody the spirit of resilience throughout his life.
He cherished the tranquility of the great outdoors. Rusty could often be found casting a line at any pond he could gain access to, or navigating the serene waters of the lake in his jon boat. These moments of solitude and connection with nature were foundational to his spirit, providing him solace and joy throughout his life.
Rusty is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Kaelan and Joe Dawson of Elberton, Georgia; his sisters, Barbara and Dr. David Mize of Elberton, Georgia and Debby Robertson of Hartwell, Georgia; and his grandchildren, Shayla Northcutt, Stormii Northcutt, Kamdyn Dawson, and Emma Grace Dawson. He also leaves behind his nieces and nephew: Meredith Mize Vaughan, Lee Robertson, and Anna Mize Lakomcik; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Guinn Woodall, Sr. and Bobbie Ernestine Weaver Woodall; daughter, Brooke Northcutt; and brother-in-law, Ervin Robertson.
Rusty’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, March 15, 2025. Visitation will begin at 10:00a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00a.m., both at Berry Funeral Home. Rev. Tim Adams will officiate. Friends are invited to 1311 Fairfax Circle in Elberton, Georgia, immediately following the service. Burial will be privately at Hillcrest Cemetery in Bowman, Georgia.
Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in his memory to Tunnels to Towers, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306 or online at t2t.org.
