Mr. Randall Gunter, 85, and Mrs. Martha "Bay" Dixon Gunter, 84, longtime residents of the Fortsonia Community of Elberton, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2015, at their home. Mr. Gunter passed away as a result of cancer and Mrs. Gunter as a result of a broken heart. They are survived by their daughters: Dee Whitlow of Elberton and Mary Ann Gunter of Hilton Head, SC; and two grandchildren: Dylan and Sally. Randall was born in Oglethorpe County on July 30, 1930, to the late William Sanders Gunter, Sr. and Janie Smith Gunter. He was a retired foreman from Harmony Blue Granite Company and served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Randall is also survived by his sisters: Virginia Bowden of Memphis, TN, Doris Winn of Athens, Carolyn McIntosh of Elberton, and Linda Mathews of Carlton; and many nieces and nephews, and was preceded in death by his brother, William S. Gunter, Jr. Martha was born in Elbert County on April 12, 1931, to the late James Warren "Wad" Dixon and Martha Ann "Dee" Smith Dixon. She was a retired office worker having worked in the textile industry and was a homemaker. "Bay" is also survived by her sister, Sara Johnson of Elberton; and many nieces and nephews, and was preceded in death by her siblings: D.C. Dixon, Anna Bradford, Lucille Saxon, Jane Ledbetter, Cynthia Proto, Dave Dixon, and George Martin Dixon. They were both active members of Eliam United Methodist Church and throughly enjoyed traveling throughout the United States together. Memorial services celebrating the lives of Randall & "Bay" Gunter will be held on Thursday, October 1, at 3 o'clock in the Eliam United Methodist Church with the Revs. Emily Case, Al Butler, and Herman Glaze officiating. Inurnment will follow in Fortsonia Community Cemetery with Military Rites by the U.S. Air Force for Randall. The family is at the residence and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 6 o'clock until 8 o'clock on Wednesday evening.
