Ray Jackson Mills

Mr. Ray Jackson Mills, 79, of Elberton, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Heardmont Nursing Home. 

Mr. Mills was born in Elberton on April 1, 1945, joining six older siblings and completing the family of Joseph Jackson “Jack” Mills and Ruth Lurleen Chandler Mills. He worked as a sandblaster in the granite industry before gaining employment at Rocky River Mills in Calhoun Falls, from where he retired after 30 years of service. Ray was a simple man who enjoyed piddling on the farm, hunting, and spending time with his family. He was a lifelong member of Bethel E Baptist Church. 

Survivors include two sisters: Doris Blevins of Louisville, KY and Vera Carroll of Elberton; sister-in-law, Joyce Mills of Elberton; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Glenda Shiflet Mills; and siblings: J.C. Mills, Bobby Mills, Jean Ruff, and Frances Sherard. 

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 20, from 1:00-1:45p.m. at Bethel E Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00p.m. with his nephew, Rev. Jacky Newton, officiating. Burial will be alongside his wife and parents in the church cemetery.
