Heaven received a beautiful angel with the passing of Rebekkah Sinclaire Curlee on Friday, April 5, 2013. Born in Athens, Ga., on April 7, 1998, to Tracy Coley Giese and John Lawrence Curlee, Jr., “Bekkah” was just shy of her 15th birthday. Bekkah was a member of Elberton First United Methodist Church’s Youth Group and attended Holy Cross Lutheran Church. She brought tremendous joy to all who knew her and was infamously known for her loving hugs and pure spirit. Her charismatic smile was the door that opened friendships, and as a result, she always knew someone wherever she went. Bekkah never thought of herself as different than others and was happiest when she could hang out with her friends of all abilities. It was this spirit that drove her to be involved in pageants, including the Big Hearts Pageant for Extra Special People, the Friends Helping Friends Pageant in Elbert County, and the Miss ECMS Pageant. Bekkah also thoroughly enjoyed her most recent involvement with the ECMS 8th grade basketball cheerleading squad, inspiring everyone who was witness to her lively spirit and love for her friends and school. She was quick to comfort those in need and lend an eager hand to help others. Just as the star she was on earth, she is now a new star in heaven shining down on those she loved. Twinkle, twinkle, our little star. In addition to her parents and countless friends, Bekkah is survived by her stepfather, Michael Giese and stepsisters, Abigail and Emily Giese of Elberton; stepmother, Kate Curlee and sister, Katie Curlee of Chattanooga; grandparents, Wanda Coley of Hull, Carra and Herb Seymour of Carnesville, and Stanley and Carolyn Thomas of Alabama; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in Georgia and Minnesota. A celebration of Bekkah’s life will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, in the Cross and Flame Building at Elberton First United Methodist Church with Pastor Norbert Hahn officiating. She will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. to lie instate until the service hour. Interment will follow in the Colbert Cemetery. Active pallbearers are John Curlee, Jr., Brad Evans, Michael Giese, Jacob Heydinger, Sam Heydinger, and Scott Perrin. Honorary pallbearers are members of Friends Helping Friends and Extra Special People. Visitation will be at Berry Funeral Home, Elberton, on Monday, April 8, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The family will receive friends at the home at 538 Woodland Rd., Elberton. Memorial contributions can be made to name a therapy room on behalf of Bekkah in Extra Special People’s future facility, or to Friends Helping Friends towards a new summer camp called Friends for Bekkah, two organizations that lovingly support children with special needs and in which Bekkah was involved.
