Rev. Albert “Al” Butler, age 70, of Hazlehurst, formerly of Elberton, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Lumber City Nursing Home with his family by his side.
He was born on February 7, 1955, in Rutherford NC., and was preceded in death by his parents, Boyce Albert Butler and Eugenia Lavender Butler. After his education, he was employed by Hazlehurst Mills, until the Lord had other plans for him. His first assignment was at Lumber City Baptist Church as their youth pastor and song leader, then on to Northgate Baptist Church of Hazlehurst as their Pastor of 14 years, then on to Woodlawn Baptist Church of Baxley for 7 years, Smithboro Baptist Church of Monticello for 5 years, and then Fortsonia Baptist Church in Elberton where he pastored for 16 years, until he retired. His loving wife said it was an incredible journey of being a Pastor and pastor’s wife for 43 years, but we loved every minute of it. He loved the Lord with all his heart, always telling people about the Lord and was an example of what a Godly Man should be and how one should act. What a Legacy he leaves for his family and friends. He was a wonderful loving husband, daddy and a great papa, just ask any of the grandkids, and he will be greatly missed.
His family consist of his wife, Laura Dawn Butler of Lumber City; two sons and daughters-in-law: Thomas and Brittany Butler of Lumber City and James and Caitlin Butler of Shadydale; three sisters: Peggy (Wayne) Powell of Sylvania, Pam (Jose) Rivera of Hazlehurst, and Rebecca Xoqui of Hazlehurst; brother, Scott (Deborah) Butler of Hazlehurst; ten grandchildren: Adelyn Butler and Ryan Butler, Walter Butler, Raychel Butler, Clara Butler, Maggie Butler, Hank Butler, Mack Butler, Ford Butler, and Sally Butler; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The visitation will be held on Friday evening, March 21, 2025, from 5:00-7:00pm in the Chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home, with Rev. Andrew Danals officiating and Mr. Mark Adams singing. Interment will follow in the Fishing Creek Cemetery with Rev. Rick Brown officiating. Paul Smith, Walter Butler, Mark Adams, Jose Rivera, Dusty Allen and Keith Mack will serve as active pallbearers. The family may be contacted at the Butler residence, 20 Ed Varnadoe Road, Lumber City.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at 2:00p.m. at Fortsonia Baptist Church in Elberton.
