Rev. Delias L. "Sonny" Peevy, 79, of Peachtree Street, Elberton, husband of Carolyn O'Neal Peevy, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at his home.
Rev. Peevy was born on October 30, 1937, in Red Level, AL to Bennie Thomas Peevy and Ellie Jeter Peevy. Sonny was respected and loved by everyone that met him. He was a man of great compassion who loved the Lord with all of his heart. This love led to him serving as a Pastor for over 50 years to churches in the states of Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. During this time, Rev. Peevy proved to be the greatest prayer warrior one could have. Sonny was an excellent example of a man of God, faithful husband, and loving father and grandfather for generations to come. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. Sonny will be remembered for his contagious smile and his ability to make anyone smile.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn O'Neal Peevy; son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Holly Peevy of Thomson; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Mabel Peevy of McKenzie, AL; grandchildren: Nicole Peevy and Michael Land, and Taylor O'Neal Peevy; great-grandchildren: Maddox Beckett Land and Ava Grace Land; and three sisters-in-love: Glenda & Craig Johnson, Brenda & Thomas Ortner, and Susie & Wes Cobb
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11AM on Saturday, May 20, at Northside Baptist Church with Rev. David McConnell and Paul Paramore officiating. Rev. Peevy will be placed in the church to lie in state at 10AM. Entombment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum with nephews Christopher Cobb, Chase Johnson, Blake Johnson, Joey Peevy, Michael Land and Bruce Poss serving as pallbearers.
The family is at the residence and will receive friends from at Berry Funeral Home from 6-8PM on Friday evening.
