Rev. Dewitt Waters, 78, of 119 Willow Street, Stanley, NC formerly of Elberton, GA husband of Mae Todd Waters passed away Monday July 25, 2011 at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. Born in Abbeville County, SC he was a son of the late Samuel P. Waters Sr. and Sallie Sutherland Waters. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Iron City, NC. Dewitt was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the 82nd Airborne, and in the GA National Guard and retired after 22 years of service as 1st Sergeant, then going on to become a Pastor, ministering in GA, SC, and NC for almost 40 years. He was also a member of the Elberton Philomathea Masonic Lodge #25. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of the home Mae Todd Waters, his daughters and sons-in-law Debbie Waters Helton and Dean Helton of Stanley, NC, and Cheryl Waters Nix and Michael Nix of Crowley, TX, brothers J.D. Waters of Elberton, GA, and Billy Waters of Comer, GA, three grandsons and two great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by a brother Samuel P. Waters Jr. A celebration of his life will be held Thursday July 28, at 2PM in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Fortsonia Community Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will be at the home of Kaye Poss 1621 Melody Lane, Elberton and will receive friends from 6-8PM Wednesday night at Berry Funeral Home. U.S. Army will serve as pallbearers. Flowers are optional and memorials may be made in his honor to a charity of one's choice. Berry Funeral Home is respectfully in charge of the arrangements for Rev. Dewitt Waters.
