Mr. Richard Melton, Sr., 77, of Heardmont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center since 2012, formerly of North Oliver St., Elberton, GA, passed away Friday, November 20, 2015, at Heardmont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Melton was born July 2, 1938, in Madison County, GA to the late Gordon Melton and Nettie Bradley Melton. In 1965, he moved to Elberton where he worked with Southern Railroad for 19 years. Mr. Melton was most known as the former owner-operator of Richard's Restaurant on McIntosh St. where he served generations of Elbertonians for many years. He was of the Baptist Faith. Left to cherish his memories are his children: Teri Mills and Mike Smith, Tammie and Scott King, and Rick and Debe Melton, all of Elberton, GA; siblings: Bonnie LaCount of Bessemer City, NC, Daisy Bagwell of Winterville, GA, and Joyce Bonner of Hull, GA; sister-in-law, Sue O'Kelley Melton of Hull, GA; grandchildren: Ronnie Mills, II, Kasey King Davidson, Andrew Melton, and Clete Brady; and great-grandchildren: Braelyn Mills and Myles Davidson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Huth and brothers: Bobby Melton and Billy Melton. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held Sunday, November 22, at 3PM in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. Roland Molina officiating. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery with Andrew Melton, Clete Brady, Sean Davidson, Kenny Bagwell, Steve Melton, David Huth, George Bonner, Kenneth Bonner, and Roger LaCount serving as pallbearers. The family is at the home of Rick and Debe Melton, 240 Dogwood Lane, Elberton, and will receive friends from 1-3PM just prior to the service at Berry Funeral Home.
