Mr. Robert (Bob) Arlington Bond, 90, of Elberton, passed away Monday, August 3, 2020 at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital.A native of Elberton, he was the son of the late Jacob Easton and Nancy Perkins Bond.He worked for the City of Elberton Natural Gas Department as a welder until his retirement. Mr. Bond served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean war. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.He was a faithful member of Harmony Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, choir member and in many other capacities.He was an avid gardener, outdoorsman, and sports fan, but most of all he lived a life devoted to his faith, family and friends. Mr. Bond was preceded in death by his wife, Annette Brown Bond, an infant son, Michael A. Bond, brothers, Harleston Bond and Elston Bond, sisters, Eula Mae Mann and Ethelyn Coates Marlow, brothers-in-law, John Mann and Wayne Brown and sisters-in-law, Alma Bond, Jackie Bond, and Jean Scarborough. Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Chandler of Elberton and Alesia (Jim) Burch of Hartwell; grandchildren, Robert (Kandice) Chandler, Rita Bolman, Anna (Edward) Weathers, Sara Beth Burch and Ben Burch; great grandchildren, Lake Chandler, Ever Chandler, Ransom Weathers and Chandler Benton;sisters-in-law, Marion Brown of Athens and Sandra (Bill) Andrew of Holly Springs; nephew Douglas Coates of Douglasville, raised in the home as a brother, and many other nieces and nephews. There was a private Celebration of Life Service in Harmony Baptist Church with Rev. Matt Law officiating. Bryan Andrew, David Brown, Ben Burch, Robert Chandler, Mark Haltom, and Clint McCullough served as pallbearers.Mr. Bond was laid to rest next to his wife in a private interment in Elmhurst Cemetery. Mr. Bond lay in state on Friday, August 7, 2020 at Hicks Funeral Home & Cremation Services for family and friends to be able to come by to pay their respects.
