Robert Lewis Graham, age 85, of Lakemont, Georgia, was called to his heavenly home on May 25, 2020.
Robert was born on June 3, 1934, to the late Robert Beggs Graham and the late Frances Uge Graham. Robert was a Christian and was a member of the Clayton Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army and played basketball for the Army Basketball Team that toured Italy playing against local and national teams. He was a graduate of Mercer University and inducted into their Athletic Hall of Fame in 1988. He enjoyed athletics, and in his professional life he worked as a teacher and coach for thirty-seven years; ten years at Putnam County High School in Eatonton, thirteen years at Gatewood School in Eatonton, and fourteen years at Elbert County High School in Elberton. He was chosen to receive the “STAR Teacher” award, achieved one state championship for his basketball team and one second place finish, won fourteen region titles and five “Coach of the Year” awards. He coached softball with six sub-region titles and two region titles. Coach Graham also had the privilege of coaching an exceptional group of young ladies in track, and together they won four consecutive state championships, and the fifth year placed second in state. He was awarded “Coach of the Year” for those five seasons in track. He retired in 1998 and relocated to live in the beautiful mountains of Rabun County, Georgia.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his two sisters: Virginia Jones and Joan O’Brien.
His survivors include his wife, Jeannette Little Graham of Lakemont, Georgia; his daughter, Stefanie Anderson of Rabun Gap, Georgia; three grandchildren: Bo, G.B., and Graham Anderson.
