Roger Dale Payton

Marion "Roger" Dale Payton, 61, of 1749 Athens Highway, Elberton, husband of the late Jane Tate Payton, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2011, at Landmark Hospital in Athens. Mr. Payton was born in Greenwood, South Carolina, August 5, 1950, to the late Grady Robert and Violet Moon Payton. He was a retired truck driver and was a member of Colbert Living Waters. Left to cherish his memories are his children, Crystal Bond, Heather and Brian Montgomery, and Jeff Payton, all of Elberton; siblings, Clyde and Mae Payton of Elberton, Clarence Wayne Payton of Greenwood, South Carolina, and Wanda and Samuel Bell of Carlton; and four grandchildren, Lexi Payton, J.R. Payton, Brianna Montgomery, and Kaden Montgomery. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Miranda Payton; and brother, David Robert Payton. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 3PM Saturday, December 17, in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Revs. Douglas Huff and George Moon and Sister Janice Loggins officiating. Burial will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery with Jeff Tiller, Justin Smith, Mark Wade, and Jonathan Wade serving as pallbearers. Flowers will be accepted. The family is at the home of Crystal Bond, 1615 Parkman Road, Elberton, and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 1-3PM Saturday, just prior to the service.
