Mr. Roger Lee Wilkinson, Sr., 74, of Mack Shack Road, Tignall, husband of 51 years to Bernice Lemon Wilkinson, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2019, in Elberton.
Mr. Wilkinson was born in Wilkes County on September 20, 1944, son of the late James Henry Wilkinson and Ionia Colley Wilkinson. He was a member of Black Rock AME Church and had worked with the Wilkes County Department of Transportation, Washington Box Factory, and Clark-Schwebel in Washington.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice; children: Denise Wilkinson of Elberton, Robin Wilkinson of Rivieria Beach, FL, Rosalyn Wilkinson of Royston, and Charles Tatum of Athens; siblings: Norris Wilkinson of Washington, James “Junior” Wilkinson of Tignall, Alfred Wilkinson of Washington, Robert Wilkinson of Tignall, Carolyn Farmer of Atlanta, Louise McCray of Atlanta, and Othella Gartrell of Lincolnton; sixteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; longtime friend, Charlie Norman; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Roger Lee Wilkinson, Jr.; and siblings: Johnny Frank Wilkinson, Leroy Wilkinson, Joe Wilkinson, and an infant brother.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, August 31, at 1 o’clock at Black Rock AME Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Wilkinson will be placed in the church at 12 o'clock on Saturday.
The family is at the residence of Bernice Wilkinson, 289 W. Tate Street, Elberton, and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00p.m. on Friday evening, August 30.
