Mr. Roy Jeptha Kidd, age 92, of Elberton, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023, at Nancy Hart Nursing Center.
Mr. Kidd was born in Comer on December 17, 1930, son of the late Roy Alec Kidd and Evie Lena King Kidd. He graduated from Comer High School and furthered his education at Athens Technical College. Roy went to work for the United States Postal service in Atlanta. With hopes of moving back home to Comer, Mr. Kidd transferred to the Elberton Post Office where he retired after many years of service as a mail carrier.
Always one to enjoy being around people, he was never one to stay idle. After retirement, Roy worked as a greeter at WalMart and also enjoyed working as a van driver, transporting people to and from doctor’s appointments.
Mr. Kidd was a longtime member of Deep Creek Baptist Church where he was active as long as his health permitted. After moving to Elberton, he attended Fortsonia Baptist Church. Roy was a proud Navy veteran, having served during the Korean conflict, as well as a proud Mason.
In his younger years, Mr. Kidd enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, and especially gardening. Roy could often be found enjoying bluegrass music and enjoyed being a ham radio operator.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife and the mother of his children, Mary Jeannette Hendrix Kidd; and sisters: Ina Dorn, Nina Parnell, and Sue Brenner.
Surviving Roy are his wife, Bobbie Sue Martin Kidd of Elberton; children: Bill Kidd of Elberton, Carol Lunceford of Dewy Rose, Joan and David Gunter of Dewy Rose, and Allen Kidd of Dewy Rose; grandchildren: Frankie Kidd, Julie Mosby, Brad Lunceford, Josh Lunceford, Drew Lunceford, and Montana Gunter; and seven great-grandchildren.
After his marriage to Bobbie Sue, Mr. Kidd gained two additional daughters that he loved as his own: Vickie Baston and Cindy and Rusty Adams; and their respective families.
The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends on Wednesday, September 13, from 6:00-8:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.
Funeral services celebrating Roy’s life will be held on Thursday, September 14, at 2:00p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the Deep Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
