Mr. Roy Gene Powers, 89, of Elberton, GA, husband of 56 years to Marlene Marie Wilson Powers, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Nancy Hart Nursing Center.
Mr. Powers was born in Cleveland, W VA on November 18, 1934, son of the late Roy Wayne Powers and Katherine Powers. He was a veteran having retired from the United States Navy after 20 years of service. Roy then went to work at Parham Oil Company, retiring as a fuel truck driver after many years. Mr. Powers was a member of West End Baptist Church and loved his church family. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He could often be found watching western television shows and completing word search puzzles.
Along with his wife Marlene, he is survived by his children: Sandra Marie Ehrig of Elberton, GA, Bruce Evans of Elberton, GA, Vanessa Sandifer of Shady Spring, W VA, and Rhonda Crook of Oxford, GA: nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one great-grandchild.
Graveside services celebrating Roy's life will be conducted on Friday, April 19, at 2:00p.m. at Elmhurst Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Fife officiating. The family will greet friends at the cemetery immediately following the service.
