Ruby P. "Sis" Harrison

Mrs. Ruby Harrison, 100, of Vesta, Georgia, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2022, at her residence.

Ruby was born on May 31, 1922  to Robert A. Pass and Minnie Broach Pass in Vesta,  where she lived the remainder of her life.  "Mrs. Ruby" as she was known to so many of the community married Jake Harrison and had five children who were the delight of their mother all her life.  To support her family, she went to work as a presser at Elberton Manufacturing where she retired some 20+ years later.  Her greatest joys were always her family, gardening, flowers, and keeping Shirley and Bobby out of trouble. Her favorite pastimes of late were riding her scooter in the yard to the garden where she was still hoeing until Shirley confiscated her favorite gardening tool.  She also dearly loved keeping up with family and friends on Facebook.  Being a centenarian did NOT slow her down from making full use of her technology to enjoy pictures and news from the community! Ruby was generous to a fault, never failing to lend a hand or offer hospitality to all.  Together she and Shirley worked tirelessly at Vesta Baptist Church, where she was a member.  Her knowledge of all things local, country wisdom, and sharp sense of humor will be missed. 

Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Minnie Pass; husband, Jake Harrison; brothers, Walter Pass, John Willie Pass; sister Cleo Mitchell; sons Jimmy (Belle) Harrison, Charles (Gloria) Harrison; daughter, Sandra (Robert) Harrison Escoe; and grandchildren Jeff Harrison and Cyndi Escoe.

She is survived by her beloved daughter Shirley and adored son Bobby (Wanda) and granddaughter Nikki  as well as seven additional grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Ruby will be sorely missed by all who love her.  She has been an institution in the Vesta community and in the hearts of so many.  The family will receive friends for one hour at Hicks Funeral Home on Monday, November 14, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.,  prior to a private interment at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Elberton.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that contributions be made to a church or charity of your choice.
