Rusty Smith

Mr. Barren Russell “Rusty” Smith, age 26, lifelong resident of Bowman, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 1, 2015, at Emory University Hospital Midtown in Atlanta surrounded by his family. Rusty was born in Augusta on August 17, 1988, to Gerald Lee Smith and Beth Lynn Wood Smith, and was an order filler at Auto Zone Distribution Center in Lavonia. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and Georgia football. In addition to his father of Elberton and mother of Bowman, he is survived by his daughter, Kinsley Adalyn Smith; girlfriend, Shelby Elrod of Bowman; sister, Kayla Lynn Carey of Bowman; grandparents: Mary Schutz of Bowman, Jenny Smith of Iva, SC, and James “Buddy” Taylor of Hartwell; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents: Barren Smith and Linda Taylor. Funeral services celebrating Rusty’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 4, at 4:30p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Cowart officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Bowman with Brian Smith, Jody Wood, Avery Smith, Evan Smith, Brandon Long, and Tyler Smith honored as pallbearers. The family is at the residence of Mary Schutz, 741 Beaver Run Extension, Bowman, and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 7:00-9:00p.m. on Monday evening. In honor of Rusty’s love for the Georgia Bulldogs, the family request those attending the services wear Red, Black, or Georgia Attire.
