Mrs. Ruth Elizabeth Johnson, 90, of College Ave., Elberton widow of the late William Wilson Johnson passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, GA. Mrs. Johnson was born May 11, 1923 in Gainesville, GA to the late Henry Franklin Johnson and Martha Pearl Hanie Johnson. She was a founding member of Calvary Presbyterian Church and was manger for Dr. Charles Herndon's Dental Practice for 20 years where she retired. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Left to cherish her memories are her daughter Merilyn Johnson Smith of Fripp Island, SC; four grandchildren Lori Johnson Mayhue, Kymberley Smith Mackenzie, Aimee Smith and David Johnson; two great-grandchildren Matthew Mayhue and Eilidh Mackenzie. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by son and daughter-in-law David Payton and Frances Moina Mathews "Mo" Johnson. Private graveside services were held Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Forest Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family has requested please make memorials in her memory to Athens Regional Foundation, c/o Guest House 1199 Clint Avenue Athens, Georgia 30606.
