Mrs. Sally Weline Hightower Fleming, 81, of Hewell Road, Dewy Rose, wife of the late Clifford Roy Fleming, (USN, Ret.) passed away on Friday, August 11, 2017, at University Hospital McDuffie in Thomson.
Mrs. Fleming was born on March 10, 1936, in Habersham County to Christopher Columbus Hightower and Myra Stroud Gibson. She was a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church and worked in the bakery at Ryan’s Steakhouse in Anderson for nearly 10 years. “Granny”, as she was known to her family, loved to cook, quilt, working in the yard and gardening, and most importantly being surrounded by her family.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law: Clifford Neal Fleming of Elberton, Troy Ray and Teresa Carol Fleming of Elberton; grandchildren and their spouses: Dwayne Fleming, Tim and Laura Fleming, Chris and Tori Fleming, Andi Fleming, Mack Fleming, Reid Fleming, April Woznick, Alicia and Ryan Bennett, Amy Caudell, and Andrea and Ron Smith; great-grandchildren: Alyssa Fleming, Jaron Fleming, Brianna Bennett, Alexa Bennett, Madalyn Bennett, Malachi Little, Faith Shiflet, Chelsea Mewborn, and Victoria Smith; and great-great-grandchildren: Destiny Shiflet and Slade McLendon.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her children: Johnny Brack Hightower, Arrie Fleming, Columbus Fleming, and Timothy Roy Fleming.
Funeral services celebrating Sally's life will be held at 4PM on Monday, August 14, at Deep Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Fleming, Rev. Eddie Wiggins, and Rev. Tim Adams officiating. Mrs. Fleming will be placed in the church to lie in state from 3-4PM. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Eric Fleming, Franklin Edwards, Charles Fleming, Steve Fleming, Arland Fleming and D.D. Shaw serving as pallbearers. Dwayne Fleming and Christopher Fleming will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family is at the residence of Troy and Teresa Fleming and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 6-9PM on Sunday evening.
