Sandra Nell Hood

Mrs. Sandra Nell Barnett Hood, 82, of Cade Circle, Elberton, GA and Burnesville, NC died Friday, September 29, 2017.

Mrs. Hood was born September 18, 1935 in Clarke Co., GA to David Elcoe Barnett, Sr., a native of Jackson Co., GA and Cornelia Alma Riden Barnett a native of St. Petersburg, FL.

She attended Morgan Co., GA schools and graduated from Morgan Co. High School in 1953 with four varsity basketball letters. In 1958, she received an AB in Geography from the University of Georgia. After teaching school for 27 years in Morgan, Jackson, Barrow, and Lincoln Counties, she retired from the Lincoln Co. School System in 1997. Besides her family, who were her main interest in life, she enjoyed genealogy, playing the piano, basket making, friends, and her students. She was of the Methodist faith, and a member of Colonial Dames 17th Century and Daughters of the Colonists.

She is survived by husband of 58 years, William Lee Hood, III of Elberton, GA; sons: William L. Hood, IV (Lisa) of Elberton, GA and John Bell Hood (Amy) of Rabun Gap and Clarkesville, GA; grandchildren: Gus, Jack, and Lucy Hood of Rabun Gap and Clarkeville, GA; sister-in-laws: Jerry Barnett of Athens, GA; and Margaret Hester of Atlanta, GA; nieces Teresa Hood, Laura Storrs, Melissa Murray, and Jill Brannon; nephews: Keith W. Barnett, Jr., David E. Barnett, III, Simon D. Barnett, and Mike Lanard; any many great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers: David E. Barnett, Jr. of Athens and Keith W. Barnett of Warner Robbins, GA; sisters: Marcile B. Lanard and Martha Love B. Melnik both of Athens, GA; nephew: Dennis Melnik; niece: Melinda Lanard Carreker; and step-nephews: Louis Lanard, Jr., and Billy Lanard all of Athens, GA.

Memorial services to celebrate her life will be held 2PM, Sunday, October 22 in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Reviere officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at Berry Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested to please make memorials in her memory to St. Mary's Hospice House, 1660 Jennings Mill Rd, Watkinsville, GA 30622 or to a charity of one's choice.
