Mrs. Sara Frances Rhodes Smith, 94, of Elberton, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2020 at Pruitt Healthcare at Spring Valley.A native of Elberton, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Lee and Eva Mattox Rhodes.In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, James S. Smith, sisters, Doris Sanders and Jimmie Sanders; and a daughter Jane Taylor.“Granny,” as she was loving called by friends of the family, loved kids and often babysat for many in the community. She also enjoyed gardening.She was a member of Eliam United Methodist Church. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Billy McClain, of Elberton; one son and daughter-in-law, Leon and Faye Smith, of Anderson, SC; sister, Betty Joe Poole; grandchildren, Tina (Chris) Scarborough, Kim Brown and Samantha Smith; Great grandchildren, Jessie Burden, Jacob, Joseph and Lakota Scarborough, Cody Brown and Blake Edwards; great-great grandchildren, Braylie Gray, Carter, Branson and Jaxson Burden. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at 2:00pm in the chapel of Hicks Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Emily Whiten and Rev. Teresa Lilja officiating.Interment followed in Forest Hills Memorial Park with grandsons Cody Brown, Blake Edwards, Jacob Scarborough, Joseph Scarborough, Josh Scarborough and nephews Jeffrey Poole and David Sanders serving as pallbearers.
