Shelby Jean Scarborough

Shelby Jean Scarborough, age 82, of Elberton, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2023 in Anderson, South Carolina.

Shelby was born in Elbert County to the late Herman Jordan and Frances Leard Jordan. She was a member of Bethel E. Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Scarborough; five brothers; and one sister.

Talented with her hands, she was well known in the community for her ceramic shop and her yard art. Her wooden Santas could be found in yards all over Elbert County during the holidays and an untold number of children woke up on Christmas morning to find stockings made by Shelby hung on the mantle.

Shelby loved to find the good in everyone, never focusing on the bad or the negative.

She is survived by her four sons, Keith Scarborough (Janine), Chris Scarborough (Tina), Ed Scarborough (Connie), and Matt Scarborough (Robin), all of Elberton; sister, Ann Hart (Larry) of Bowman; 18 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Shelby's life will take place at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, November 5, 2023 in the Hicks Chapel of the Historic Joseph Cohen House, 231 Heard Street with her nephew, Greg Jordan officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
