Talmadge Thompson Bone, Sr.

Mr. Talmadge Thompson Bone, Sr., better known as “T-Bone”, of Ruckersville Road, Elberton, husband of 63 years to the late Louise Tiller Bone, finished his course in faith on Friday, December 20, 2013, at Athens Regional Medical Center. He was 89. Mr. Bone was born in Elbert County on March 06, 1924, to the late Clifton Lamar and Madie Estelle Nash Bone. Talmadge was a talented and well-known stone cutter in the granite industry who took great pride in his work. A Veteran of the U.S. Army, he proudly served his country in the Battle of the Bulge during WWII. "T-Bone" was a member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church, member of Elberton American Legion, and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5456. Surviving are his daughters, Frances Swygert Carrington and her husband Bud, Connie Ayers, and Tina Bone, all of Elberton; grandchildren, Talmadge Bailey Swygert and his wife Kira of Elberton, Heidi Louise Swygert of Smyrna, and Sheena Ayers Stransky and her husband Bart of Smyrna; great-grandchildren, Maureen Louise Stransky of Smyrna, Tanner Moore of Elberton, and Brandon Seymour of Tifton; brother, Frank Bone of Elberton; sister, Mauline Williford of Lavonia; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his son, Talmadge Thompson Bone, Jr.; son-in-law, Johnny Swygert; sister, Daisy Middleton; and brother, Charlie Bone. A Celebration of Talmadge's life will be held on Saturday, December 28, at 2:00p.m. in the Francis Asbury United Methodist Church with the Revs. John Younts and Luther Mahoney officiating. Friends are invited to share their favorite memory. The body will be placed in the church at 1:00p.m. to lie instate until the service hour. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Doug Anderson, Cliff Bone, Dennis Bone, Chase Rampey, Barry Witcher, and Darrell Witcher. Honorary pallbearers will include Jimmy Chastain, Bob Higginbotham, Kenneth Johnson, Larry Johnson, Charles Nash, Joe Scarborough, Edwin Shive, Danny Shive, and Pete Smith. The family is at the residence of Bud and Frances Carrington, Hartwell Highway, Elberton, and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00p.m. on Friday evening. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions in his memory to Francis Asbury United Methodist Church, 1016 Ruckersville Road, Elberton, Georgia 30635.
