Mr. Terry Dwight Stratton, age 57 of Griffin, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2019.
Mr. Stratton was born on November 17, 1962 in Greenville, South Carolina. He graduated from Christ Church Episcopal School in Greenville, SC, where he played football and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. After graduating from the University of Georgia with a degree in Economics, he served as a finance officer in the United States Air Force, and was named Strategic Air Command (SAC) Finance Officer of the Year during his tenure. After his service, he was employed as an Economist for the US Army Corps of Engineers in the Savannah District, where he worked on several studies including the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project, which won team of the year in 1995 and 1997. He joined the South Atlantic Division office of the US Army Corps of Engineers in 2002, and retired as the Senior Economist in the Policy and Planning Division. He was the subject matter expert on the economic aspects of USACE water supply projects, hydropower operations, and deep draft navigation. He is a member of First Baptist Church of Griffin.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Grady Leon Stratton, Sr. and Sara Ayers Stratton. Survivors include his wife Alicia Barfield Stratton; children, Benjamin Wade Stratton, Fletcher Stratton, Mallory Stratton; brother, Grady Leon Stratton, Jr. and his wife Carllene; niece, Kristen Rogers and husband Patrick; nephew, Alec Stratton; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tim and Paige Motis; nephews, Matthew Motis, Levi Motis; in-laws, Tommy and Olga Barfield; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A visitation will be Sunday, December 29, 2019 from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm in the Welcome Center of First Baptist Church of Griffin, with a funeral service immediately following in the Sanctuary. Dr. Bill Hardee will officiate. Interment will be Monday at 1:00 pm at New Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Elberton, Georgia.
