Mr. Thomas Frank “Tom” Sigman, Jr., passed away at his Lake Forest Drive home in Elberton, Georgia on Thursday, May 12, 2022. He was 90 years old.
Mr. Sigman was born in Social Circle, Georgia on September 30, 1931, son of the late Thomas Frank Sigman, Sr. and Gladys Frances Hogg Sigman. He was a 1948 graduate of Social Circle High School and received degrees from both Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College and University of Georgia.
Following graduation from University of Georgia, Tom worked a brief stent at Lockheed Aircraft in Marietta. In 1959, the family moved to Elberton when he accepted an office manager’s position at Elbert County Office of United States Department of Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service. Mr. Sigman worked his way up in numerous USDA positions, retiring from the state level in 1992.
Civically, Tom had been an active member of First United Methodist Church since 1959 where he formerly served as a Sunday school teacher, member and president of the Friendship Club, and was currently a member of the Mary Freeman Sunday school class. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and a 50 year member of Philomathea Masonic Lodge #25. Mr. Sigman served on the Elberton City Council for one term and volunteered as a coach for Elbert County Little League. He was a member and past president of the Georgia Association of Office Manager Executives. He was also an honorary member of the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office.
In his free time, Tom enjoyed hunting deer, dove, and quail. He was an avid fire arm collector and prided himself in staying up-to-date with the latest gun technology and adding to his vast knowledge of guns. After being forced to fly for work, Tom overcame his flying fear and ultimately became a licensed pilot. He enjoyed Sunday afternoon flights around Elberton.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Frances Alexander Sigman; and son, Timothy C. Sigman.
He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Rebecca Anderson Mercer Sigman; children: Tamara S. Key (Howell), Twyla S. Lovinggood, and T. F. “Tom” Sigman, III (Barbara), all of Elberton; daughter-in-law, Jan D.
