Tom Dedek

Mr. Tom Dedek, 66, of Elberton, passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Emory University Hospital. Tom was born on September 25, 1948 to the late Waclaw and Lubow Dedek in Lodz, Poland. He immigrated via Belgium to Montreal when he was 11 years old. He was married to the love of his life Janie Christie Dedek for 24 years. Tom loved his 10 short years in Elberton. He enjoyed the generosity of spirit and selflessness of the people in the community. He was an avid woodworker and was commissioned by the Chapter 14 Book Club in Elberton to build a table in memory of Mrs. Jackie Cole that is displayed in the Elbert County Library. One of his greatest joys was using wood from his property to build numerous items for his wife and friends including the table for Mrs. Cole. Tom was a dedicated volunteer along with other members of Elberton Rotary Club in building Rotary sponsored wheel chair ramps. He also spent many hours building sets for the Elbert Theater. Tom especially loved meeting and talking with the people he came in contact with during his volunteering. One of Tom’s proudest days was the day he became a naturalized U.S. citizen. In addition to his wife he is survived by 3 beloved siblings, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews who live in Belgium, Montreal, Kansas and Idaho. Tom is also survived by his "Kids" Gussie and Miss Elle Mae. A Funeral Mass was held Monday, December 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St Mary’s Catholic Church and a Celebration of Tom’s life was held at the Elberton Country Club at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 with a reception following the service.
